Mayor Pat Bell won’t seek re-election
Mayor Pat Bell will not seek reelection this November.
Bell announced his retirement at Monday’s City Council meeting. He cited recent health issues as a factor in his decision.
Bell quoted a friend and supporter who said he was visionary, charismatic leader with backbone.
“My backbone is not working too good,” he said. “I haven’t played golf this year.”
As far as being visionary, Bell joked that he hasn’t read a newspaper in a month because he can’t see the print.
Bell talked about the expansion of the city limits since he took office and thanked members of the community for their support. He complimented city employees and various organizations.
Bell said visitors often comment that they like the town.
“That’s your payback, really,” he said. “These are all things that we’ve done together.”
Bell said he would run for mayor again if he were 10 years younger.
“You’d have to drag me out of here,” he said.
