County opens bid for 100 percent coverage at jail

Timmy Loy from Vision Communications spoke to the court about install a 100 percent coverage camera system at the Adair County regional jail.
The county considered another option for putting a camera system in the Adair County Regional Jail at its meeting on Tuesday.
The court was originally looking at only putting in a partial camera system in certain spots.
Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton said that she spoke with officials in Casey County about its camera system.
Melton said that Casey County Judge Executive Ronald Wright told her that unless the jail had 100 percent coverage they were wasting money.
Melton looked into having the system put in by someone local. Timmy Loy from local business Vision Communications spoke to the court about putting the cameras into the Jail.
The cost is higher but the quality is higher,” Loy said.
Casey County paid around $60,000 for its camera system, which consisted of 64 cameras.
Adair County is looking at 72 cameras. Vision Communications drew up a proposal with the number of cameras and where they would be after a walk through of the jail.
Loy told the court he didn’t want them to open the company’s bid if they were going to bid for 100 percent coverage. The court had previously bid for partial coverage from non-local companies.
The court agreed to bid for 100 percent coverage but some magistrates wanted to approve a bid as soon as possible.
“I like to see this move as quickly as we can because I believe the public is wanting this done,” said Sammy Baker, District three magistrate.
Melton said they would advertise the bid and look back on it during the special called meeting for the second reading of the budget.
