911 call that man was beaten not correct

A frantic call to 911 Sunday night that a man had been beaten to death led to an investigation at a residence at 4485 Cane Valley Mill Rd.

Upon investigation, however, officials reported that no foul play was suspected.

Police responded to the call and cleared the scene before allowing EMS on location. Timothy D. Florence, 50, of Columbia, was discovered beside a garden lying on the ground, after apparently falling from a chair.

Coroner Rick Wilson said Florence had minor bruising but no apparent life threatening injuries.

“There were some bruises but none life threatening or consistent with a beating,” Wilson said.

Kentucky State Police Det. B. J. Burton is investigating, but said no foul play is anticipated at this time.

Burton said the report that Florence was beaten was speculation on the part of the caller, who discovered Florence’s body.

“It’s not the type of trauma consistent with a beating,” Burton said.

An autopsy was performed Monday by the state medical examiner’s office in Louisville. Results are pending, but Burton said the cause of death could have been from drug or alcohol overdose, or it could have been natural causes.

Wilson said Florence was pronounced dead at 9:11 p.m.

While the caller’s report that came into 911 was repeated to EMS and heard on emergency scanners and apparently reported by some local media, Wilson said neither the coroner’s office nor the police ever issued a press release with that information.

“Initial reports were an exaggeration and not based on any press release,” Wilson said.
