Andrade sentenced to 14 years in jail
Laurie R. Andrade, who was charged with killing her husband in 2008, was sentenced to 14 years in jail last week after pleading guilty to manslaughter, first degree.
Andrade pleaded guilty on May 3 to a manslaughter charge for the August 2008 fatal shooting of her husband, Leonard B. Andrade, Jr.
According to the sentencing report, her past as a victim of domestic violence will be considered in parole eligibility.
The sentencing read, “She has been a victim of domestic violence or abuse…with regard to the offense involving the death of Leonard B. Andrade, Jr., for parole eligibility purposes.”
The shooting was not considered murder because she “acted under the influence of extreme emotional disturbance,” according to the indictment.
A jury trial was held in January but ended in mistrial after testimony ended and the jury went into deliberation. It was determined that the jury was accidentally given a transcript of a taped interview it was not authorized to see.
The taped interview between Kentucky State Police Det. Israel Slinker and Andrade had been admitted as evidence but the transcript had not.
