Utility bill changes will come in September

Utility customers who have been serviced by the city of Columbia will see a change in bills in September, once a merger of the city’s water and sewer with the county water district is complete.

The new Columbia Adair Utilities District will bill all water and sewer customers in the city and county. In addition, the utilities district will bill city garbage customers and will forward the payments to the city.

Once the merger is complete, the only bill that will come from the city will be for gas customers, according to city clerk Carolyn Edwards.

Columbia Utilities sent a letter out to customers this past week explaining the changes that will take place following the merger, which is expected to be complete at the end of July.

Customers will receive their bills from the utilities district at the first of the month beginning in September and bills are due by the 10th of the month. The Columbia Adair Utilities District offers online bill payment, bank draft services and payment by credit card.

City customers who are already participating in auto bank draft services will be transferred and payments will be deducted from their account on or about the 10th of each month.

The bill received by customers in September will cover around two weeks of service because of different reading dates. On Oct. 1, customers will receive a complete bill.

Bills can be paid online at adaircountywaterdistrict.com by clicking on “Paying your bill.” The website will be updated soon. Bills can also be paid at 109 Grant Ln.
