Kids get lots of kicks
For the second consecutive year, students in Adair County will return to school with new shoes thanks to local volunteers and donors.
“We had 227 total requests,” said Mindy Smith, one of the founders of Kids Need Kicks ministry. Last year, the program helped 166 children with free shoes.
Co-founders Smith, Cricket McCloud, Columbia Christian Church Youth and Family Minister Adam Shepard, and Family Resource and Youth Service Center representatives Paula Garrison, Angelia Smith, Jaime White and Debbie Dunn worked during the summer taking requests for new athletic shoes.
Last Saturday, they saw the results of their labor when students of all ages received new shoes.
“We really saw some awesome smiles and accomplished what we set out to do,” Smith said.
She thanked everyone who donated financially or gave of their time to help the ministry. Anyone who signed up for shoes but was not able to attend Saturday can pick up their shoes during their school’s upcoming open house, she added.
