Blair, Melton hold on to offices in primary

Adair County voted to keep incumbents in two county offices in Tuesday’s election.

Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair was re-elected in a tight race against Republican candidates Terry Akin and Tammy Morrison.

Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton was given the Republican bid for the November election where she will face Democrat candidate Wid Harris.

COUNTY CLERK

Blair won the election with 41.29 percent of the votes but candidate Terry Akin was close behind with 34.12 percent. Blair won by 320 votes.

“I am so thankful and grateful,” Blair said Tuesday night after being congratulated by Akin.

Blair, who had to have everything organized for Tuesday’s election, said she would celebrate by getting some rest.

New voting machines were put in use this year, so it took some adjusting. Blair and those in the county clerk’s office had worked hard all day organizing and making sure the election went smoothly.

“I look forward to serving the people for another four years,” Blair said.

Blair had a total vote of 1,844 with Akin having 1,524 and Tammy Morrison with 1,098 votes.

JUDGE EXECUTIVE

Melton won the race for judge executive with 47.9 percent of the votes. Curtis Hardwick followed Melton with 31.48 percent. Melton won by 741 votes.

“I am so thankful to the voters,” Melton said.

Melton also gave thanks to Hardwick and Goodin.

“I thank my opponents,” Melton said. “We had a clean race.”

Melton is glad that this part of the election process is over, so she can spend more time on things such as organizing help for victims of the recent flooding in Adair County.

“I am happy to get back to serving the people,” Melton said.

Melton has had to help organize different areas such as the road department and aid groups such as FEMA and the American Red Cross to help the flood victims.

Melton will face Democrat candidate Wid Harris in the November election. Harris was the only candidate to file for candidacy, which landed him an automatic bid for the Democrat spot.
