Kids Need Kicks Ministry Kicks Off for 2010-11
For the second year, Kids Need Kicks Ministry is diligently at work to provide new athletic shoes to all school-goers for the 2010-2011 academic year.
Co-founders Cricket McCloud, Mindy Smith, Columbia Christian Church Youth and Family Minister Adam Shepard, and Family Resource and Youth Service Center representatives Paula Garrison, Angelia Smith, Jaime White and Debbie Dunn are currently taking requests for new athletic shoes.
Applications went out with all students the week after spring break this year.
“Last year, we were able to fulfill 166 requests for shoes,” Garrison said. “So far, we have a total of 158 requests for shoes at the Youth Services and Family Resource Centers. The deadline for requests is up on June 4, so it’s not too late to request a pair of shoes for a student who may need them.”
Financially, times are tough for many families. That’s why this ministry was formed. KNK committee members need the help of the community to help fulfill these requests.
Churches, businesses and individuals are called upon to give a donation or to sponsor a “Kids Need Kicks Shoe Box.”
“The program helped us out tremendously last year,” Garrison said. “The funds that FRC and YSC receive were able to be put to good use through clothing, school supplies, etc.”
“KNK Shoe Box” information will be distributed to churches within the next couple of weeks. The deadline to return shoes with the “Shoe Box” program will be June 30.
“The smiles and hugs I received last year made this program worthwhile,” Smith said. “One little boy was so excited, he hugged my neck and showed me how fast he could run around the CCC Activities Center.”
If individuals, businesses, or churches cannot sponsor a “Kids Need Kicks Shoe Box,” a donation to the ministry will definitely be accepted.
Checks may be made payable to Columbia Christian Church, but please specify on the check: “Kids Need Kicks Ministry.”
A receipt for tax purposes will be given in return.
